Smoke in the area is a prescribed burn of 156 acres at Fort Gordon, Richmond County emergency management officials said today.

The exercise, which began today at 10:30 a.m., may cause smoke and smoke smell in the Augusta area, according to Sharon W. Bennett, of Richmond County emergency management.

Motorists are advised to drive with caution around the Fort Gordon gates as visibility may be affected in these areas, she said in a news alert bulletin.
