Jonathan Hartman, 18, of Appling, was pronounced dead at 10:18 p.m. at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, according to Columbia County Deputy Coroner Bonnie Holloway. He died of head trauma, she said.
The single-vehicle wreck occurred about 3 p.m. on Scotts Ferry Road near Sellars Road. The cause is still under investigation, but Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said Hartman’s vehicle, a Toyota 4Runner, ran off the road. Hartman over-corrected the vehicle, causing it to flip several times and slam into a tree.
Hartman was the son of Kiokee Baptist Church Pastor Steve Hartman, Morris said. He played on Harlem High’s football, basketball and tennis teams.
