Deputies were called to Red Wing Rollerway Monday morning after someone observed two people sawing on the facility’s air-conditioning unit.

According to an incident report, an employee at the bowling alley next door to the skate rink at 3065 Washington Road noticed the man and woman near the air conditioner around 5 a.m. Both fled toward the woods.

Police said the unit had been moved off its concrete slab and pried open but it appeared to be operable. The damage was estimated at $1,000.

Metal theft

Thank goodness for alert citizens that don't mind calling in a crime they are observing. We need many many more of these folks to nip all this crime in the bud. Can't keep on like this - criminals are getting the upper hand. Kudos to the observer!!! Call the law, folks, when something does not look right. I'd rather have one wrong call than have one that was made after it was too late.
