Regional literary competition announced

Applications are now being accepted for the 2012 Porter Fleming Literary Competition.

The competition has been recognizing outstanding fiction, nonfiction, poetry and plays from writers 18 and older in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, South Carolina and North Carolia for the past 19 years.

The competition is held every year in honor of Porter Fleming, a prominent citizen of Augusta, according to a news release.

Submissions will be accepted until July 13. The competition awards cash prizes up to $7,000.

The awards will be presented during a ceremony in at the Morris Museum of Art from 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 6 during the annual Westobou Festival.
