Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies were searching Sunday for an armed robber who got away with $5,000 Saturday night, authorities said.

Shortly after 10 p.m., deputies were called to the Motel 6 on Park West Drive in Grovetown in reference to an armed robbery, Capt. Steve Morris said.

When they got there a victim told them he was meeting a friend in the parking lot to pay $5,000 for a car when a man approached him with a gun and demanded money.

The robber took the money and ran. No one was hurt and no arrests have been made, Morris said.

Once again, sloppy reporting.

Once again, sloppy reporting. This place is a good five miles from Grovetown, and Google even lists it as in Augusta, GA.

How convenient; a man just happens to have 5,000 dollars on him at the same time a robber shows up! And in a Motel 6 parking lot? I am sure people meet there all the time on Saturday night to settle up on a used car deal.

This probably happens all the time. "Bring cash to buy my car, I'm from craigslist, so you can trust me." Then BAM! Robbery!

dstewartsr - The Motel 6 'is'

dstewartsr - The Motel 6 'is' in Grovetown. All addresses along the west side of Jimmy Dyess Pkwy to the traffic light at Old Belair Rd. are serviced by the Grovetown post office. The same deal goes for all addresses on Old Belair Rd. to Columbia Rd. Any of the neighborhoods with entrances on Old Belair Rd. are serviced by Grovetown. However, if any of those neighborhoods have exit points to Martinez without driving on Old Belair Rd. have service from the Martinez P.O. Oh… and Google is not the end all of all knowledge. The Motel 6 website should give you the correct address.

This story lends credence to the old saying: "There's no honor among thieves." The police probably already have a search warrant for the "friends" house.
