At 8:15 a.m., deputies were called to Pine View mobile home park in the 2000 block of Gordon Highway, where they found a dead 5-month-old, Richmond County sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Carrier said.

Investigators found the home to be in “deplorable condition,” and the infant had “numerous nonhuman bite marks in various stages of healing,” Carrier said.

There were four other children in the home, ages 1, 3, 5 and 6. All four were examined at the scene and no injuries were found.

The Division of Family and Children Services was notified, and the children were handed over to the agency.

The mother of all the children, Aileen Wright, 26, and the father of the infant and the 1-year-old, Nicholas Womack Sr., 24, are being held at the Richmond County Jail on charges of cruelty to children in the second degree and four counts of deprivation of a minor.

More charges could be brought after the infant’s autopsy, Carrier said.

The infant was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for the autopsy.

Extremely sad situation. Our society must do everything we can to protect children. At the same time, something must be done so that individuals will not have children expecting other citizens "the government" to take care of them.

Take the other kids, and

Poor little baby. So sad to

Poor little baby. So sad to hear a child has passed. Now, IF the parents were receiving assistance, then what I've been saying for years applies. Those receiving government assistance should be mandated to be on birth control - Norplant, Depo Provera, or IUD. No BC, no check. If you can't take care of yourself, you sure don't need to be bringing another mouth to feed into your household.

There are a lot of people- a LOT of people out there- that, for one reason or another, are unable to predict the consequences of their behavior. Mental illness, personality disorders, mental retardation, addiction, immaturity- and they all add up to the situation that those poor kids were living in.

It's now considered unthinkable to sterilize people that are unable to properly care for children- and this is what happens.

Those people know about birth control, they just choose not to use it. When you have nothing, never had anything, and never will have anything, the only thing that you can have is children.

According to the USDA, it would take approximately $40,050.00 per year to raise 5 children within this age span (as of 2010) ... http://www.cnpp.usda.gov/expendituresonchildrenbyfamilies.htm ... Unless you EARN over this amount by working a JOB (or your husband at least EARNS this amount by working a JOB) then there is NO REASON for anyone to have 5 children like stair steps! It is absolutely absurd that our government continues to support people who refuse to work and continue to have babies like feral cats.

Until they come up with a male contraceptive implant, ANY woman on public assistance of any kind, should be required to have Norplants inserted, or not get assistance. I'm not saying you can't boff your brains out, just making sure that you don't bring another child into the world, that you sure as hell can't support.

allhans, I'm curious to know where the "dog" information came from. The bites were reportedly from either rodents or insects. I'm sure there will be an update when they get an autopsy report.

What if it was SIDS? What if

What if it was SIDS? What if the deplorable conditions had nothing to do with the death of the baby? The baby was really young. My neighbors son died because of SIDS and she didn't know what was wrong with him. She dialed 911 because he wasn't breathing and ran across the street with his body. My mother began CPR but he had already was gone. I remember he still looked alive. I remember he use to always have these little red bumps on stuff on his face as well. Let's just pray that for once, even though their place was nasty as being reported, everything is not what it seems and that God simply was ready for the baby to come home. :/

Even if the child did die of SIDS (which is tragic and horrible) the charges will most likely stand. Even without the death of the child, these charges could've been made due to the conditions of the "home".

Recently I believe that there

Recently I believe that there was a law passed that everyone on Food Stamps had to be drug tested, that's long overdue, I agree with the other writer that there needs to be mandated birth control, or sterilization even for some of these folks. What is wrong with these people that feel like the more babies they have the more they can make us all pay for?! Children don't ask to be brought into this crazy world as it is! People need to wake up and speak out about these kind of issues, after all we are the ones paying for it all!

It's just sad folks always go

It's just sad folks always go to the most negative scenario. We don't know anything really about these people yet some folks here are passing judgement. We don't have the facts. Only a news article, that might not even have the most accurate information. Most likely heresy thus far. We just don't know everything. I'm very cautious about situations like these. Wait and see what happens. Just out of curiosity, what does this have to do with food stamps? While I agree with the drug testing, I'm unclear as to how food stamps and a death tie into each other. IJS.

Someone had to call. Perhaps

Someone had to call. Perhaps it was the parents and they woke to find their child unresponsive so they did what was right. Instead of freaking, they called for help. Maybe their house wasn't as clean as others, but as reported the other children seemed to have be kept. Perhaps, whilst out and about, say some mosquitos, no see ums, or perhaps ants from the Easter picnic got to the baby? Could even have been severe eczema. There are always other scenarios that could have occurred. Mishaps happen all the time. It's unfortunate that a child passed away. Let's not be so judgmental on people we don't know and only with limited information. :)
