A Barnwell, S.C., man was killed after crashing his motorcycle on South Carolina Highway 23 near Edgefield on Sunday afternoon, police said.

David Fallaw, 55, was driving a 1995 Honda motorcycle west on the road, about three miles north of Edgefield, when he lost control and was ejected around 12:45 p.m., according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. He was not wearing a helmet.

Fallaw was pronounced dead shortly after at a hospital, Chief Deputy Coroner David Burnett said.

I guess helmets are not

I guess helmets are not required in SC. My guess is a $50 helmet would have saved his life. I respect the freedom to choose and don't think they should be required by law, however at 62 I've always worn one.

I used to ride without a

I used to ride without a helmet. Then a close friend wrecked. His HELMET was split down the center. He is still riding today. If it hadn't been for that helmet Steve wouldn't be here today. I haven't ridden without one since. Last year my brother and his wife went down on his bike (not his fault). Chances are helmets save their lives.

Condolences to the family. I

Condolences to the family. I ride and these stories hit home.

"Driving" a motorcycle, and was "ejected"? When they reported this on the TV news last night, the news READER also said he wasn't wearing a seatbelt......

I would also support "choice" on helmets if riders were required to have some serious major medical coverage to cover their long term nursing home care after they split their skulls.

Last month on I-20 near Columbia Sc I saw several riders not wearing helmets. I was driving about 65 and they all passed me, weaving in and out between vehicles. They had to have been going at least 90, and no helmets!
