LULA, Ga. — Hall County sheriff’s deputies are trying to determine who shot two horses, killing one of them.

The Times of Gainesville reports that one horse was found dead in a pasture, with multiple gunshot wounds. Another horse on the property was shot but survived.

Authorities say both horses were found Thursday morning at land on West County Line Road in Lula.

The owner, Carroll Saxon, tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the 15-year-old Tennessee walking horse that died had been shot five times.

Saxon said a 14-year-old quarter horse was shot in the neck and has a 50-50 chance of surviving. He said a veterinarian was able to remove the bullet from the animal’s neck, but there is still a risk of infection.
