Body found in Savannah River off Riverfront Drive is that of a woman, Richmond County Sheriff's Office says

Officials say the body found Saturday night in the Savannah River is that of a woman.

Richmond County deputies were called to the 700 block of Riverfront Drive by a resident after he found a body in the river while kayaking. The body was decomposed too badly to identify immediately, but sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser said Sunday it is that of a female.

A car officers believe belonged to the woman was left outside the The Boathouse Community Center at 101 Riverfront Drive, about a mile away on the river, Dresser said.

Based on preliminary facts, investigators do not think the death is suspicious, he said, adding that they are waiting on an autopsy to be performed before issuing an official ruling.
