An 83-year-old woman died Wednesday after her car rolled down her North Augusta driveway and hit her.

Margaret E. Phillips was last seen at her mailbox on Springwood Drive in the Knollwood subdivision around 6 p.m. A neighbor called 911 around 6:45 p.m. after he saw Phillips’ 2006 Lincoln Town Car in her front yard, according to Tim Carlton, the Aiken County coroner.

“The vehicle apparently rolled down the steep driveway and struck Ms. Phillips,” Carlton wrote in an e-mail.

She was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where she was pronounced dead from multiple body trauma shortly after arrival.

The incident is being investigated by the North Augusta Department of Public Safety and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office.
