Bowers, a former Greenbrier sports star and the owner of a local sports training facility, has been selected to be on the next season of The Bachelorette.

A member of Bowers’ staff at AthElite Sports Training Academy in Evans confirmed he has left town for a few weeks to be on the show.

“We don’t know a whole lot of details,” trainer Casey Munn said. “But he is on the show, and he did get the first one-on-one date.”

Bowers, 31, will be one of several eligible bachelors competing for the heart of a bachelorette when the next season of the show airs this summer on ABC.

According to US Weekly, Bowers and the bachelorette, Emily Maynard, dined together last week in her hometown of Charlotte, N.C.

After a successful football career at Greenbrier, Bowers played at Presbyterian College and later signed a pro contract with the Atlanta Falcons, who sent him to play in NFL Europe. Bowers, one of only two former Columbia County football players to reach the professional level, also played in the Arena Football League.

During the later years of his pro career, Bowers made Evans his home base and started a personal training business. His company, which trains several local athletes in a variety of sports, now plays host to the area’s top high school football combine. Bowers found a permanent home for his business a year ago, opening an 8,000-square-foot facility at 2520 Associates Way in Evans.

Bowers has also served as an assistant coach at Augusta Christian Schools and later as head football coach at Westminster Schools of Augusta.

Careful not to judge Bowers.

Careful not to judge Bowers. We haven't seen him do anything to compromise his Christian testimony.

That statement about only two

That statement about only two Columbia County players to have played in the pros has me thinking. If NFL Europe is the standard, I know of one more from Columbia County, Lakeside HS. I also know of one more Lakeside player still having a great career in the Canadian Football League. Another signed as a free agent with Pittsburg, but didn't make it out of training camp. Anybody know any others?

I think I know the Lakeside

I think I know the Lakeside and Greenbrier players pretty well, but I seriously doubt Harlem and Evans haven't had players in their long history that played on some pro level...probably even the NFL.

Anyway, to Bowers good luck on the show.

Another attention junkie

Unpublished

Another attention junkie willing to pimp himself out to the TV networks for 15 minutes of fame through the utter garbage known as "reality" shows.

I hope the guy actually "wins". He'll end up stuck with some self-absorbed, high maintenance airhead whom he hardly knows and after 3 months of misery together, they'll split, just like all the other "winners" on this joke of a show.

That'll learn him.

Taking a shot at what? Making

Taking a shot at what?

Making a spectacle of oneself? A voyeuristic trivialization of marriage? Getting one's picture in the tabloids? Becoming as famous as the Kardashians for a few days?

No wonder this country is going down the pan.

come on,, i try not to judge

come on,, i try not to judge but this is ridiculous. Bowers tries to get his business on TV promoted any chance he gets, He tries to act as though he is this big time athlete from Augusta area. Will give him his props, he played in NFL Europe, Thats great,, but there are many more news worthy athletes from Augusta area. Not someone trying to gain fame and fortune anyway he can get it... Next he will be trying out for Top Model, or The Voice,,, give me a break Bowers

I have been friends with Ryan

I have been friends with Ryan for over three years now. He trains my son, who has been with him since he came back to Augusta to open his business. Ryan is Christ centered in the way he lives. Compromising his character and integrity, for him, is not an option. This is one person, in many, who have helped my son grow in his conditioning, character, and faith. While watching Ryan train others over the past few years, there is no doubt about the dedication he has to his clients, esp. the youth. He always takes those with him to the next level.

As for those who doubt his integrity for being on a show such as this, don't hate because he is successful. Being around the business, and other areas of sports, then yes, he is the best in town, if not one of the best statewide. He has brought something to Augusta that has been needed for a long time.

Business is business. There is nothing wrong in promoting yourself and your business. If one didn't, they wouldn't have a livelihood.

God leads and we should follow his lead. Like I said earlier, Ryan is Christ centered and only follows where God leads. He takes nothing for granted and would have put a lot of thought and prayer into this decision before he made it.

Anyway, any woman would have a prize in being able to form a relationship with this man. I hope he is successful in any endeavor he pursues.
