Two drivers were killed Monday morning after a head-on crash on Pine Log Road.

The Aiken County Coroner's Office identified the victims as Katris Tolliver, of Augusta, and Dale Allen Rhein, of Aiken.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Judd Jones, Rhein was the driver of a 2003 Jeep Wrangler traveling on Pine Log Road when he went off the right side of the road near Huber Clay Road around 7:10 a.m. The driver then overcorrected and struck a 2002 Toyota Avalon head-on.

Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Jeep was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the Toyota was wearing a seatbelt.

Tolliver was the restrained driver of her Toyota traveling north on Pine Log Road. Rhein was the unrestrained driver of his jeep traveling south, the coroner said.

Kay (Katris) was my niece.

Kay (Katris) was my niece. You were a beautiful spirit who's stay here was much too short. We are all devastated at our loss but believe that heaven is rejoicing for it has received an angel. Even though her body is not with us, her love and spirit will remain always. Our deepest and heart felt sympathy goes out to the family. Thank you for the outpouring of support and sympathy to her son, husband, parents and entire family during our time of grief. Uncle David and Family.
