Seymone Cohen-Fobish was a dental assistant student at Augusta Technical College when she got the call asking if she wanted to compete on America’s Next Top Model.

Former Augusta resident Seymone Cohen-Fobish is one of 14 young women participating in America's Next Top Model: British Invasion, which premieres at 9 p.m. Wednesday.

In April, the former Greenbrier High and Augusta Christian Schools student auditioned for the show in Atlanta, though she accidentally tried out for the All-Stars cycle for previous contestants and wasn’t selected.

Unexpectedly, she got a call in August asking whether she was interested in the next show, Cohen-Fobish said this week during a telephone interview from San Antonio, Texas, where she now lives.

“All I had to do was update my information and see what happened,” she said.

She is one of 14 young women participating in America’s Next Top Model: British Invasion, which premieres at 9 p.m. Wednesday. Seven American models will compete against seven women from Britain’s Next Top Model. The show has already been taped, but she isn’t allowed to reveal how she fared during the 18th cycle of the show.

“The girls were all equal competition for me, but I think it was harder, especially on me, being that the rest of them had modeled before and I hadn’t. It was extremely difficult. It was kind of like being thrown into an element and being told to perform,” Cohen-Fobish said.

The 19-year-old attended Greenbrier High School and Augusta Christian Schools, graduating in 2010. Her parents are in the military and were stationed at Fort Gordon.

“I’ve been trying to model since I was 8 years old, and nobody would pick me up because I am obviously not the figure for a normal model. I’m very much curvy,” she said.

America’s Next Top Model officials told Cohen-Fobish that she was considered plus-size.

Because she didn’t have modeling experience, she said that she “winged it.”

“I kind of based it off their reaction to what I was doing. If I got a positive reaction, I said, ‘OK, I’m doing this right.’ It was a learning experience for me,” Cohen-Fobish said.

If she hadn’t gotten the call from the show, she wasn’t going to audition again because she couldn’t afford the hotel stay, she said.

To participate in the show, she had to drop out of school. She was majoring in dental assisting because she “has a fascination with teeth.”

“I was more so hoping and praying to God that I’d make it past the first episode and everything was smooth sailing because I’m completely dropping my life to wing at something that I’d never done before. Military parents are really strict. For them to let me drop college like that, I know that they support me 100 percent,” she said.

Being a plus-size model is difficult, but Cohen-Fobish said that she likes her curves.

“To be honest, if anybody ever asked me to lose weight, I’d say no because I like my body. I like my curves. I most definitely don’t want to lose any of it. That just means I have to work harder … I fight for what I want,” she said.

She is deciding whether to move to California or Miami to pursue a modeling career.

“I most definitely hope to continue modeling. Not only did I get my foot in the door, but I got like half of my body in there,” she said.
