DACULA, Ga. — Authorities say an 11-month-old Dacula girl was hospitalized with extensive burn injuries after she accidentally pulled a pot of hot liquid onto herself.

Gwinnett Fire Lt. Eric Eberly says a fire engine was waiting at a red light near the intersection of Dacula and Fence roads when the girl’s father approached them frantically around 5 p.m. with the child in his arms. The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that firefighters saw extensive burns to her body and called for a medical helicopter.

Bad weather prevented the flight, and the girl was taken by ambulance to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Family members told officials the child pulled a pot of hot liquid onto her at home. Eberly says the family was taking her to the hospital when they spotted the fire truck.
