Man killed in early morning wreck identified

 

Police continued to search this morning for the person believed responsible for a fatal hit-and-run accident early Friday.

One person was killed and another injured in the wreck around 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of Amersterdam and Old McDuffie roads.

Richmond County Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay said deputies are still looking for the driver of the 2000 Dodge Durango who ran a stop sign and struck a 2008 Nissan Armada. The impact caused the Armada to roll over, injuring the driver and killing the front seat passenger. of

Coroner Grover Tuten identified the victim as James E. Hester, but he had no other immediate details.

Gay said the Durango was later found to be stolen; its driver, who likely sustained injury in the wreck, fled on foot.
