Tonya Wilds, 44, was found safe today by authorities.

A Beech Island woman is safe after being located nearly 24 hours after she went missing from her home.

Tonya Wilds, 44, was discovered on James E. Andrews Lane in Beech Island, around 11: 30 a.m. Wednesday after a man saw her in his yard and recognized her from media reports.

Wilds, who has a mental disability and functions at about an 8- to 10-year-old level, had last been seen at her home on Riverbend Drive around noon Tuesday.

“She was cold and disoriented but other than that she was OK,” said Aiken County sheriff’s Capt. Troy Elwell.

Aiken County authorities said the woman, who was found shoeless, had managed to cross Highway 125 to the location where she was discovered approximately 650 yards away from her home.
