The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that the organizers of the event received an e-mail this week from the compilers of the Guinness Book of World Records.
Anne Henry of Jacksonville, Fla., organized the attempt during the Society of Stranders’ Fall Migration last Sept. 24. Nearly three times the number needed to land in the record books for the “Largest Carolina Shag Dance” participated in the event.
Guinness officials said at least 250 shaggers had to dance for at least five minutes to set the record.
The shag is the state dance of both Carolinas.
