House fire kills Columbus boy, 2

COLUMBUS, Ga. — Authorities say a 2-year-old boy died when his home caught fire in Columbus.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports that Jaylen Jackson died Sunday morning in the home on 32nd Avenue.

Fire officials say two other people — the child’s uncle and cousin — escaped the blaze.

Fire Marshal Ricky Shores says no one else was injured in the fire, which destroyed the home. He said seven people live in the home, though only three were at the house at the time of the fire.

Shores said the cause and origin of the fire remained under investigation.

The exact cause of Jaylen’s death is also under investigation, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
