LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — Gwinnett County authorities have charged a 19-year-old with a shooting death at a house party near Snellville.

Gwinnett County police spokesman Jake Smith told WSB-TV that Damien Kinard Reddick was charged in the shooting of 20-year-old Cory Johnson on Wednesday night.

Johnson’s family members say he was shot while trying to prevent others at the party from getting hurt.

Authorities say about 50 college-age people were at the party, which spilled into the backyard. Neighbors say they heard yelling and screaming just before the shots were fired around 10:30 Wednesday night.
