At least nine impaired drivers were arrested Friday night through a combined effort by Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol and the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

Richmond Sheriff’s Capt. Scott Gay said two checkpoints, and other stops, yielded nine DUI arrests, 12 seat-belt violation tickets, 14 drivers with a suspended license, five without insurance and 30 other citations including missing a tag or headlight violations.

Richmond County added 40 extra deputies to the streets for the first of a two-night initiative during the New Year’s holiday to “reduce the number of impaired drivers,” Gay said.

Great job in helping to save

Great job in helping to save lives by the RCSO. There is absolutely no excuse for prople driving drunk or suspended as these are the people that end up killing innocent persons.

There have been more deaths on our roadways locally than murders so anything the Sheriff's Office and other agencies can do to help keep adults responsible for their own actions is greatly appreciated by law abiding citizens.

Law enforcement officers love

Law enforcement officers love check points. It is kinda like shooting fish in a barrel. Best part for them and adrenalin rush comes when someone approaches and trys to turn around and go back the way from which they came! Good job Scott, RCSO, GSP and Highway Safety!

When I was in high school, I

When I was in high school, I got my first real job as a delivery boy for the Walgreens on the corner. We had a white pick-up truck that we would drive around delivering orders to people's houses. One New Year's morning I answered the phone and a guy mumbled, kind of drunk, hungover like, that he wanted two packs of Camels. I told him that wasn't a five dollar order and we couldn't deliver just cigarettes. He said, well, send some %$#@ aspirin, too. He gave me a whole dollar tip.

Should have been more than

Should have been more than nine locked up. That would be an average night if police pulled over drivers after 12:00 p.m.
