Firefighter hurt in south Augusta house fire

A firefighter was sent to the hospital New Year’s Eve after battling a house fire in the 2900 block of Willis Foreman Road.

No one was home when the blaze was reported about 7:15 p.m. It was a fully involved fire that caused significant damage, officers at the scene said. The house sits back off Willis Foreman Road and is surrounded by trees. The home was still smoking heavily around 8 p.m., but no flames were showing and firefighters said they had it under control.

The injuries the firefighter sustained were minor, emergency dispatchers said.
