Ga. child saves family from fire

NORCROSS, Ga. — Authorities say a child alerted a family that their home was on fire moments before the flames destroyed the residence in the Atlanta suburb of Norcross.

The two adults and three children in the home made it safely outside.

Gwinnett County fire spokesman Capt. Tommy Rutledge tells the Gwinnett Daily Post that crews responded to the single-story home on Payne Road around 7:40 p.m. Thursday. The house was fully engulfed by fire, with flames spreading to the backyard.

Rutledge says it was one of the children saw flames from a back window and alerted everyone else to the fire.

Rutledge tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the children range in age from 2 to 9. He didn’t know which of the children alerted the rest of the family to the fire.
