An 18-year-old is in custody after a robbery and attempted robbery of two convenience stores Monday evening.

Alex Cotton has been charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, criminal attempt and two counts of possession of a firearm during commission of a crime.

Authorities said Cotton entered Super Express, 1502 Central Ave., around 10:40 p.m. with a single barrel shotgun and demanded money from a clerk.

Another employee threw something at Cotton causing him to flee.

Ten minutes later, the suspect entered Tip Top Gas, 2447 Wrightsboro Road, with the shotgun and demanded money from the clerk. Authorities said the clerk was led outside at gunpoint after the suspect received money from the register.

That's the best surveillance

That's the best surveillance footage I've seen in a long time. More businesses need that quality video.

No, this involved armed robbery and kidnapping. This was two very lucky breaks short of some murders. He'll be in for awhile.

He has 3 no-bond counts.

But he needs to find a new profession- he stinks at robbery.

Yall know I believe armed

Yall know I believe armed robbery is a serious offense, I wish attempted murder could be added to the charges. If that gun was loaded and pointed at the clerk at that close range, then there was a very thin line between liffe and death, and for what, a few bucks. I say let him think about it the next fifty years at least.

I'm 100% with you David. Any crime committed with a gun should automatically tack on mandatory 15-20 years.

Probably more angry than sorry....mad that he got caught.

But he's happy knowing he won't spend much time in jail....after all, no one was actually hurt, and he was only trying to get money for drugs....

A good lawyer will get first offender status for this one?

FalseHope: It's sad to say, but I agree with you, sort of. His mom, grandmom, four cousins, two neighbors, a preacher, and numerous well-wishers will all show up in court and insist that little Alex is a good boy who did a stupid thing. The store clerk's plea for justice will take a back seat to the tears of Alex's supporters. And who will pay the $70 per week for the ankle bracelet when young Alex is on probation?

If it had been only a single robbery attempt then he might have had better prospects. The fact that he went elsewhere after his first attempt failed and did it again, not to mention marching the clerk outside at gunpoint, ought to ensure that this clown gets some serious time.

Great Job to the RCSO in a

Great Job to the RCSO in a fast arrest. The Sheriff's Office really is doing a great job as understaffed as they are and with all of the budget cuts from the commission.

Now, we need for our DA's office and judicial system to ensure that this individual NEVER walks the streets again.

I agree about the actions of

I agree about the actions of the sheriff's office personnel, AsItIs. But as far as keeping the perp off the streets, that is out of the DA's hands. Our prisons are full, so whenever a new prisoner arrives, another one has to be set free. That is why full sentences are seldom served.
