BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Southeastern Conference has unveiled its 2012 football schedule with its two newest members Missouri and Texas A&M opening play Sept. 8, and Alabama will visit LSU in a rematch of the Bowl Championship Series national championship Nov. 3.

Missouri will play the 2012 season in the SEC East and take on Georgia on Sept. 8. Texas A&M will be in the West and hosts Florida. The first conference game will be Aug. 30 when South Carolina visits Vanderbilt.

The SEC says the 2012 schedule is not based on any previous or future formats and that athletic directors will meet in the spring to decide the formula for future schedules. This schedule is based on divisional play of eight games with six inside the division and two outside.

The story says Missouri vists

The story says Missouri vists UGA, but the schedule says UGA is @ Missouri. It's an AP report. Congrats to the AC on getting it posted before the AJC. UGA loses it game in Tuscaloosa next year.

Richt's teams have

Richt's teams have historically peaked in October after habitually being soft at the beginning of the season. I look for the rivalry with Carolina to get more intense, and the game placement more beneficial to Georgia. The Border Bash temps will be more cool later in the year too. When you really look at this schedule, Carolina is the toughest and most formidable opponent on the calendar. Thats going to be a BIG ONE, and great for our region. Season expectations are going to be massive in Athens. Considering how down the conference is across the board in the East, expectations will be for the Dawgs to run the table considering the absence of Bama and LSU. The Dawgs had better get their running game together!

How is Missouri

How is Missouri East?

Missouri is farther west than most teams in the SEC West.

They should rename the divisions. Rather than east and west, how about varsity and junior varsity or professional and pee wee divisions? That would be more accurate.

All conferences with twelve

All conferences with twelve or more teams should play 9-10 conference games in a season. That would leave just two non-conference games. Georgia again misses out on Alabama, LSU and Arkansas in 2012. Non-conference games for 2012 includes Buffalo, Florida Atlantic and Georgia Southern in addition to Ga. Tech. When the TV contracts come up for renewal, more conference games will be on the table. I know this means less bowls for the SEC as they will probably beat up on each other, but increased conference games will happen.

The good ole' boys at SEC

The good ole' boys at SEC headquarters have almost guaranteed UGA another SEC East title. In addition to the Dawgs not having to play the top 3 teams in the West they have moved the Carolina game to October which will favor UGA and their depth in most years. The SEC also cancelled USC's home game against Miss. St. and replaced it with an away game against LSU. Thanks. Arkansas remains on the schedule. South Carolina will likely have a better team in 2012 but will probably have a worse record. One contest the Gamecocks won't lose is the one against UGA in Columbia. The SEC provided all the incentive USC needs.
