Two people were killed in a fire Friday morning in Salley.

Aiken County coroner Tim Carlton reported that several volunteer fire departments responded about 9:30 a.m. to a fire at a double-wide mobile home in the 100 block of Hoss Lane.

During a search of the home, two bodies were found near the entrance, Carlton said.

The names will not be released until Carlton can identify them and notify the next of kin. He is trying to do so through dental records because the burns were severe, and he expects that to take a few days. He said both appeared to have been killed by smoke inhalation.

Aiken County Arson investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, he said.

Please be paranoid as far as safety (among other things) as it can save a life. Check your FIRE ALARMS and keep a surplus gas mask and axe or sledge hammer next to/under bed to take the window or wall out if needed.
