Decline seen in initial jobless claims

Fewer people in November joined the unemployment line for the first time.

Initial claims for unemployment for the Augusta metro area fell to 1,981 in November, down from 2,155 in October, according to data from the Georgia Department of Labor.

Other than Savannah, Dalton and Athens, other metro areas in Georgia saw increases in initial jobless claims.

Initial claims were also down in Augusta compared to November 2010.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
