Grovetown vote tonight on Sunday alcohol

The Grovetown City Council likely will vote tonight to legalize Sunday packaged alcohol sales.

The city council already approved last month an amendment to repeal an ordinance banning packaged sales on Sundays. The amendment also states that licensed establishments can sell alcohol 12:30-11:30 p.m. Sundays.

If approved, licensed stores could start selling packaged alcohol on Sundays by this Sunday, Dec. 18.

The council is following the wishes of the voters, the majority of whom in the Nov. 8 municipal election approved a referendum to allow the sales of packaged alcohol, including beer, wine and liquor, at grocery, convenience and liquor stores on Sundays.
