North Augusta officers caught a metal thief in the act early this morning.

Authorities were called to a home construction site on the 100 block of Mossy Oak Circle shortly after midnight for a suspicious person. According to an incident report, authorities discovered a man holding a knife in the garage.

Throughout the vacant residence, officers located bundles of damaged copper wiring on the floor and hanging from the walls.

The suspect, identified as Jacob Edward Compton, 22, of the 200 block of Rosemary Street in Belvedere, was transported to the North Augusta Public Safety headquarters for questioning. The suspect was issued a citation, the report said.

No wonder metal theft is so

No wonder metal theft is so rampant, caught in the act and issued a citation? They should have told him just take the wire and don't do this anymore now.

Give the Police a break. He

Give the Police a break. He didn't write the article. Besides, they will get you in North Augusta and Cudos to them. Do the crime, Do the time, Pay the fine. I agree, he should be jailed, required to purchase new wire, supervised to re-install, and then sentenced to time.

The citation was for parking
Unpublished

The citation was for parking his truck in front of a fire plug.

They're still trying to figure out what the charge is for the wire stripping.

Absurd is the best label to

Absurd is the best label to apply to government response to this (attempted) theft and expensive damage caused to property owner.
If the thief doesn't learn justice from the system then he will rob again and sooner or later be rightly killed by a property owner in the process.

The WHOLE legal system needs a reality check !
