CHARLESTON, S.C. — New emails released by The Citadel show an attorney for the South Carolina military school hoped to avoid a criminal or civil investigation if the school conducted an internal investigation of a sex abuse complaint against a former camp counselor.

That counselor, now 32-year-old Louis ReVille, faces nine counts of molesting young boys.

The military college in Charleston on Wednesday released recently found emails pertaining to the 2007 complaint. The college said attorney Mark Brandenburg would not comment.

The Citadel received the complaint from a former camper about an incident that happened five years earlier at the camp, which is now closed. The school didn’t contact authorities about the complaint.
