A former trustee of soul singer James Brown’s estate was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital after a log truck pulled out in front of his pickup in Warren County, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Buddy Dallas was driving the pickup south on Georgia Highway 171 shortly before 6 p.m. Monday when a log truck turned right off Landrum Road in front of Dallas, and Dallas struck the log truck, Trooper Ben Rollins said.

Dallas was airlifted to MCG Hospital, where a hospital spokeswoman said he was listed in serious condition Monday night.

Rollins said the log truck driver was at fault and was charged with failure to yield and a stop sign violation, but the driver’s name wasn’t immediately available.

Dallas, a Thomson lawyer, is involved in the bitter feud over the entertainer’s estate, which has reached the South Carolina Supreme Court.

Brown’s widow, Tomi Rae Hynie Brown, and some of the entertainer’s children challenged his will and the trust a year after his death on Christmas Day 2006, saying that he was under “undue influence” of Dallas and fellow former trustees David Cannon and Alfred Bradley.

James Brown left his personal and household effects to named adult children, a maximum of $2 million for a family educational fund, and the James Brown I Feel Good Trust to benefit poor students in Georgia and South Carolina schools.
