The visitors centers at Lake Russell and Lake Hartwell will close on weekends and federal holidays because of sparse winter visitation and limited budgets, according to the Army Corps of Engineers.

The closures will be in effect Nov. 26 through March 3. Both visitors centers will remain open during normal business hours, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The visitors center at Thurmond Lake near Augusta, which receives more visitors than its sister reservoirs upstream, will continue to be open on weekends. The hours at that facility are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. seven days a week.
