Smoke at Lamar Building shuts down part of Broad Street

The section of Broad Street in front of the Lamar Building, 753 Broad St., has been shut down as fire crews are responding to the report of an activated fire alarm, according to Richmond County dispatch broadcasts.

The call was received around 9:30 p.m. Several Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department trucks responded, and firefighters at the scene reported smoke.

Initial broadcasts indicated the alarm was activated near an elevator on the 14th floor.
