A 10-year-old Aiken trick-or-treater pulled a gun on a woman who said she would take his candy on Halloween.
According to a police incident report, the 28-year-old victim told authorities she recognized some boys from her neighborhood while they were trick-or-treating about 6:30 p.m. Monday near Schroeder and George streets and jokingly told them she would take their candy.
One 10-year-old in the group of about 10 juveniles responded with “no you’re not …” and then pointed a 9 mm handgun at her.
According to Aiken Public Safety Lt. David Turno, the clip was not in the gun at the time, but the boy did have a loaded clip in his possession.
The boy’s brother, also 10, told authorities he also had a gun.
The second weapon was recovered Tuesday morning.
The boy who pulled the weapon was brought to the police station where he was turned over to the custody of his parents.
Turno said the boys got the weapons from their grandfather without permission.

Exactly my point made on a different article. Sometimes kids can do something like this and be released home to their parents.
That's all?? Turned over to his parents and nothing else?? No consequences for stealing and pointing a gun? We'll be seeing those boys in The Jail Report before they're 12.
10 is a bit young, not sure what else could have been done at that age. But I've seen 13 and 14 year olds and older do things like this and are simply returned home to their parents. It just depends on who you are and where you live.
What else can be done? It's called Youth Detention. "obtained the weapons from their Grandfather without permission." Is that to say that permission was even REMOTELY possible?? This is where it starts, people. 10 is not too young for punishment when you threaten to kill someone with a gun. At 10, unless you're mentally diminished in some way, you KNOW the difference between right and wrong.
I agree Hope723....but some think they are too young to have any type of 'detention'. Kids are obtaining guns and committing crimes at younger and younger ages.

Listen, taking a kid's candy is pretty serious business! You don't joke about taking a kid's candy on holloween night. She should have been locked up and interogated until it was certain that she was not a threat. Just suppose you are standing in a security line at the airport and joke about having a bomb. Well, you would be locked up right away until it was determined you were not a threat. I am sure these 10 year olds were just protecting their rights. Possession is 9 10ths of the law or something like that!

To me the time should not matter, race should not matter, 2 kids had guns along with the ammo and could have killed themselves or someone else. Adults should keep guns locked up so that children can't find them. they need to be taught a lesson now before they grow up in the system.
I agree stillamazed. These kids could have hurt themselves or someone else very easily. They do need to be taught a lesson and this should not be easily dismissed or they probably will end up in the system.

@Patty-P: Not that it EVER matters what time of day someone pulls a gun on another person as to how 'guilty' it makes them....this was not a Sunday afternoon. It was Monday at 6:30pm.
bdouglas you are right....I'm thinking of the home invasion that happened on Sunday. And I don't have a problem with establishing 'guilt' when it comes to violent crime. Believe me, I see things like this ALL the time and it is just swept under the rug....then a year or so later you'll see the same juvenile in trouble again and again. At 10, something is going on and the behavior needs to be nipped in the bud.
If you 10, 15 or 20 and you think your big enough to tote a gun and threaten people I think your big enough to be in JAIL! PERIOD!

Unbelieveable, I am glad there were no injuries. I agree with Ashleyn!, this can't just go away without some legal consequences. There likely won't be enough coming from home.

Me: I don't think it was determined he threatened to kill anyone. He was merely amplifying his right to not be robbed after nightfall. It's called self defense. Prove to me the kid is clinically psychotic and off his meds. Otherwise, it's just a kid making a dumb decision; not having all the info to be a careful decider.

patty-q...true the kid made a bad decision. He should be punished - not sure if 'jail' time would be effective for a child his age. Cute name by the way...
I have a hard time faulting the young man for defending himself from an apparent robber. Had something more serious taken place against him, most would be glad he at least had a gun to defend himself. With proper training, even young people can safely and responsibly handle firearms.
Further, I'm not convinced the woman was 'joking.' The young man's reaction seems to back this up. Why would you joke about stealing candy from kids on Halloween anyway? As she quickly found, no one was laughing.
Since when does the person threatening to take something from someone else get refereed to as 'the victim'? I guess here and oh yeah, when the government does it.
No, he shouldn't have pulled a gun over candy but if anything more is done to him than a punishment decided by his parents then perhaps 'the victim' needs to be charged with a attempting to mug the kids.
My son just called me and said several cars in his neighborhood were burglarized/vandalized last night by trick or treaters on bicycles (from another neighborhood of course). This is just another innocent event the ferals have ruined for the rest. Lets just cut out the door to door and let decent folk dress up and party in club houses, homes, churches, and other safe venues.
Nothing wrong with joking a little. Especially when you already know the person. A ten year old shouldn't have a gun period. There is no excuse for it at all.
absolutly time to ban, or register all 10 year olds, male and female.
