A woman was killed Wednesday afternoon as she was walking along Pine Log Road in Aiken County after three vehicles collided near Briar Patch Road, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

An SUV driven by Aiken resident Susan Lockhart, 51, was traveling north on Pine Log Road when it rear-ended a minivan driven by Ricky Cunningham, 42, The impact caused the van to cross the road and hit a Ford pickup truck driven by Carlton Fogg, 36, of Jackson, as he was heading south. The truck then hit and killed a female pedestrian.

Nobody in the vehicles was hurt.

Cpl. Bob Beres of the highway patrol said no charges have been filed pending an ongoing investigation. He said the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team will also investigate.

The victim’s name had not been released late Wednesday night.

The wreck was reported at 4:12 p.m., according to the highway patrol’s Web site.

Wow. Talk about wrong place

Wow. Talk about wrong place at the right time. People fly down that curvy road, too. Sad story.

No charges against the driver

No charges against the driver of the mini-van that rear ended another vehicle and caused all this?

alhans, Didn't you read that

alhans, Didn't you read that charges are pending an investigation? Were there witnesses other than those involved? Was there a mechanical failure with the van preventing it from stopping? What will the charge be if any? It's a story with a very sad ending, but we can't rush to judgement until the facts are known.
