19-year-old killed in crash in Aiken County

A 19-year-old Ward, S.C., woman died Sunday after the vehicle she was driving hit a power pole and flipped, authorities said.

Emeo Bussey died at the scene near Whispering Pines Road in Ridge Spring, S.C., according to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

Bussey was driving home from her job at McDonald’s in Aiken around 5:50 p.m. when her 1992 Pontiac Sunbird ran off the road after entering a curve too fast, Carlton said in a news release.

After the Sunbird left the road on the right side, Bussey over-corrected, crossed the road, ran off the left side and hit a utility pole. The car then overturned and landed on the roof. Though Bussey was wearing a seat belt, Carlton said she died from multiple body trauma.

Carlton said speed is thought to be a factor in the crash.

A toxicology report is pending for Bussey, the 15th vehicle fatality in Aiken County this year.
