1 dead at Atlanta Burger King shooting

ATLANTA -- Authorities say one person was killed after gunfire rang out at a Burger King restaurant on a busy Atlanta street.

Police were called to the fast-food restaurant on Peachtree Road in the Buckhead area early this morning.

WSB Radio reports that police responded to the fast-food restaurant after an employee sounded a silent alarm to signal that the business was being robbed.

Atlanta police Detective Keith Meadows tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that an officer confronted the suspect inside the restaurant and ordered him to surrender. Meadows said the suspect turned toward the officer, who wounded him by firing two shots.

Police said the man then headed outside, with the officer in pursuit. Meadows said the officer confronted the suspect again, and fired at least seven more times, killing him.
