Wildfire near SRS did not damage facilities

A wildfire that burned about 50 acres within Savannah River Site was brought under control early Thursday, authorities said.

The blaze, caused by a lightning strike, was first reported Wednesday night between A and M areas, Savannah River Nuclear Solutions spokeswoman Barbara Smoak said.

Firefighters worked through the night to contain the blaze and shut down portions of the site's Road 2 as a precaution.
The damage was confined to wooded areas, with no impact to structures or nuclear facilities.
