Whiskey Road in Aiken reopens

Whiskey Road has been reopened to both northbound and southbound traffic after a ruptured water main forced the street to close most of the day.

Aiken Public Works crews have completed repairs on the water main, which runs beneath Whiskey Road near Summerall Court, and completed temporary repairs to the road.  A permanent road repair effort will take place after the soil around the water main has settled and compacted, according to an Aiken Public Safety news release issued shortly before 4:30 p.m. today.

Residents affected by the disruption are urged to boil water before consumption as a precaution until 5 p.m. today. The "Boil Water Advisory" area is located from Mead Avenue south to Boardman Road and Whiskey Road east to Two Notch Road.

According to an earlier news release, the rupture caused street flooding and limited traffic on Whiskey Road to southbound only.
