Richmond County authorities have named a 29-year-old man as their suspect in a fatal hit-and-run.

Ricky Lavon Oliphant Jr. is wanted for striking James Curry, 64, on Olive Road on July 21, said Richmond County Sheriff's Capt. Scott Gay.

Curry was pushing a shopping cart down the center turn lane when he was stuck by a pickup truck, which fled the scene. Curry died four days later at a hospital.

Gay said Oliphant is wanted on charges of vehicular homicide, felony hit and run, improper passing and driving while license revoked.

Oliphant was released from prison on May 13, on parole for a conviction of theft by receiving stolen property.

bdouglas... I think it's upgraded to veh homicide when there are extenuating circumstances, alcohol, excessive speed, and in this case, apparently no license.

Actually in Georgia there is

Actually in Georgia there is no "Vehicular Manslaughter" just Vehicular Homicide-first degree and second degree. First being a felony for the DUI, Hit and Run, Reckless Driving, Fleeing, etc.

This dude needs to be put
Unpublished

This dude needs to be put away just on his criminal history alone. Condolences to the victims family. Why do people insist on walking in the middle of the street? I see it all the time, especially walking down the suicide lane. They give it that name for a reason ya know. I wonder had this been a licensed sober driver who didn't flee if there would have been any charges. With that being said, this dude had no business driving for about the past 10 years. Since he can't follow the law, now it cost someone their life, he should never be let free.
