Clayton County to celebrate school accreditation

LOVEJOY, Ga. - Clayton County is celebrating after the school district regained its full accreditation.

The school district is joining with business leaders and political heavyweights on Saturday at the Matthews Soccer Complex in Lovejoy to throw a party to celebrate the fete.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools took the 50,000-student district off probation in May.

Clayton County's school district lost accreditation completely for nine months starting in fall 2008 because of a squabbling school board. It won accreditation back in May 2009 but remained on probation for two years to address lingering issues.

The problems drew national headlines and damaged the district's reputation.

This is the same school

This is the same school system that gave teachers bonuses out of stimulus money, only to demand the bonuses be returned later. Now they are celebrating their bounce up from total failure? What a circus.
