Copper stolen from energy tower

Copper ground wires were stolen from the energy tower at American Towers in Augusta, according to a report from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.

Stephen Gates, who lives at American Towers, told deputies that the theft happened between 5 p.m. on June 30 and 10 a.m. Wednesday, and the estimated total cost for repairs is about $2,000.

The perimeter fence had been cut to get to the tower, according to the report.
