Graniteville man dies in 1-vehicle wreck

A 36-year-old Graniteville man was killed after his 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck crashed Monday evening, authorities said.

The driver, identified by Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton as Joseph Robinson, was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, after the 6:10 p.m. crash, said Trooper Billy Elder of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Robinson was driving the truck southbound near the 100 block of Addie Road, about 1 mile west of Burnettown, when the vehicle ran off the left side of the road, overturned in a ditch and struck a tree, authorities said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Carlton said Robinson was trapped in the truck for almost an hour. Robinson died of multiple body trauma, and toxicology is pending, Carlton said, adding that Robinson was apparently returning home from a friend's home.

The crash remains under investigation, Elder said.

I played softball with Joey a couple of months ago, he had an infectious personality and made everyone around him smile like it came natural to him. Everyone that reads this, please pray for his family to get through this very difficult time of grief. He was also an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan so lets hope they can get it done tonight, he would be so proud.

Why so long would be a good question to ask in this case?

@TK3: I live not even 1/4 mi

@TK3: I live not even 1/4 mi from this road. Addie Rd is a quiet stretch of road that only goes probably 1-2 mi connecting Sudlow Lake Rd with Chalk Bed Rd. There are only 3-5 residences on the road very spread out and it's heavily wooded and very lightly traveled. It's quite possible no one passed by for that long, also possible that an overturned vehicle might not even be spotted with all the groundcover there.
