SC man charged after going after seagull with bat

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. --  A West Ashley man has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities say he hit a seagull with a bat.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reports Sunday that a witness called police June 18 and said she had seen a man smack the flying bird with a baseball bat.

The woman took the bird to an animal shelter, and it died later of head trauma.

Police say 32-year-old Louis Hoppmann III told police he and friends were playing a beach game when he noticed more than a dozen seagulls flocking over his blanket and the group's food.

Hoppmann told officers he made one swing with a bat to try to scatter the birds and hit one of them. It wasn't immediately clear when Hoppmann would appear in court.

IF if occurred like this,

IF if occurred like this, then this arrest is ridiculous.

Special interests groups have place so many unnecessary and ridiculous laws on the books that there or more laws than anyone could ever know. From share the road with bicyclists that shoudn't be on roads where the speeds are over 25mph and were meant for cars to crazy laws like this - we need to greatly reduce the number of laws we have instead of continuing to increase them every year.

Yeah it is horrible that

Yeah it is horrible that people think it is wrong to kill a bird with a baseball bat on a crowded beach. What a bunch of hippies.

Hey lady (that turned him in). I killed a whole family of mice at my house a couple of years ago. Want to turn me in too?
Next time a mosquito or a bee gets on you, you shouldn't swat it. You might hurt it.
...this is stupid...
