Ga. mother accused of throwing newborn in trash

ALBANY, Ga.  — Authorities say a south Georgia mother is facing charges after they say she concealed her baby's death by throwing the infant into a trash can.

The Albany Herald reports that 20-year-old Deanna Hammond was arrested Tuesday night by Albany police.

District Attorney Greg Edwards said that in addition to being charged with concealing the death, Hammond faces an additional charge of throwing away or abandonment of a dead body.

Edwards said investigators believe Hammond threw the baby in the trash can before her mother called 911 for emergency medical help.

Considering that Deanna gave

Considering that Deanna gave birth in November, it is quite likely that the baby was stillborn.

There are people out there that, for various reasons, can't make sound, rational decisions. Mental illness, emotional problems, drug or alcohol issues, organic brain damage, low IQ.

Deanna's mother didn't even know that she was pregnant, which is indicative of serious problems.

You might have misunderstood. At 4:00 AM Saturday Deanna was bleeding heavily in the shower and the mother called 911. She wouldn't likely be bleeding from a delivery back in November.
