Pedestrian struck in Edgefield County dies

A North Augusta man struck the morning of May 5 by an 18-wheel tractor trailer on U.S. Highway 25 near the intersection of Bettis Academy Road in Edgefield County, S.C., has died.

Edgefield County Deputy Coroner David Burnett said the man was 30-year-old Zachary Mullan of Oakdale Avenue in North Augusta. Burnett said Mullan died at 3:37 a.m. today of "severe head injury and body trauma" sustained in the incident, which halted both lanes of traffic for more than an hour.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported the crash at 6:34 a.m. on its Web site, but no additional information has been provided.
