LOVEJOY, Ga. -- Ten Clayton County high school students were arrested after a food fight erupted Tuesday at the school.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the incident began when an assistant principal at Lovejoy High School called police to report a student for gambling around 11:15.

Officer Phong Nguyen with Clayton County police told the AJC that the student, whose name was not released because he was a juvenile, had a knife and was arrested on gambling and weapon charges, Nguyen said. The student was transported to the youth detention center, police said.

And that was just the beginning.

With officers already on campus, a food fight erupted in the cafeteria, despite officers' attempts to halt it, Nguyen said.

“A few students didn’t want to stop the food fight and wanted to continue in it," Nguyen said.

One student, 18-year-old Jefferson Rivera, allegedly began cursing at an officer, Nguyen said. Another student, Eric Fuentes, 17, allegedly jumped on the back of another officer. At that point, an officer deployed pepper foam, Nguyen said.

Absolutely not respect for

Absolutely not respect for rules or authority...yeah, we don't need school vouchers....

High school students cussing at police officers, jumping on the back of another officer...Really? They need their butts beat good when they get home but obviously they haven't learned anything thus far from their parents.

This "time out" crap really is doing wonders for discipline.

@asitis....butt beating in

@asitis....butt beating in these parts is a felony charge. The only option is 'time out' or let them be dealt with by the authorities.

I can't imagine throwing food

I can't imagine throwing food at people in a cafeteria. I never could.

JSACB, hey, who's the lucky person/people that get to clean up that huge mess, caused by teenagers acting like toddlers? Causing thousands of dollars worth of damage is "fun"?

And JSACB, it's people like me and my husband who are getting sick and tired of paying our tax dollars to repair vandalism at schools. As you get older and mature, you'll feel the same way.

When you're the one footing the bill, the "fun" abruptly stops.

Amen Corgi, sick of paying

Amen Corgi, sick of paying taxes for people acting like animals and destroying everything around them. Amen Asitisinaugusta, my parents would have beat our rears, did many times. Patty-P, is rear end beating really a felony charge?

Wow.... a few of y'all need

Wow.... a few of y'all need to pull the metaphorical stick out of your 4th point. What do think happens when kids get over-stressed? I really don't see where the food fight itself was harmful. Them acting as they did towards officers was out of line.
@Patty-P... last time I checked it was okay as long as it was open-hand on the bottom with clothes on in Richmond Co.

@Paul..I was being slightly

@Paul..I was being slightly sarcastic, but there are some people around here that are against that too believe it or not. And for a big high school student, an open hand on the rear is a joke.
