A public information meeting will be held Thursday in Columbia County to discuss the progress of Georgia's State Water Plan, and in particular the planning efforts associated with the Savannah and Ogeechee rivers in the east Georgia region that includes Augusta.

The 2004 Comprehensive State-wide Water Management Planning Act authorized the development of the State Water Plan, which in turn requires regional water planning to provide the necessary local and regional perspectives to ensure each of Georiga's 10 water planning region's water resources are sustainably managed through at least 2050.

The Savannah Upper-Ogeechee Water Planning Council meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Savannah Rapids Pavilion, Evans to Locks Road. The purpose of the meeting is to provide local governments and utilities with the opportunity to review the draft regional water plan and accompanying recommendations.
