Officials plan to allow limited entry to Ringgold

RINGGOLD, Ga. — Residents and business owners in a north Georgia city devastated by severe weather may soon be allowed to quickly inspect their homes and businesses.

Catoosa County Sheriff Phil Summers said that authorities plan today to allow some people to briefly enter the center of Ringgold through roadblocks and checkpoints that are currently sealing off the city.

Authorities had kept residents and bystanders away from the debris downtown as rescuers combed through devastated buildings to search for victims and survivors.

Summers said only people with a pressing need will be allowed to enter the city temporarily. Officials are still working out the rules.
