Warrants have been issued for a man suspected of stealing a metal sign from Westminster Schools of Augusta.

The sign removed from the driveway of the property at 3067 Wheeler Road on Monday was recovered at Campbell’s Recycling, according to Richmond County sheriff’s Investigator Alton Creech.

Through recycling records authorities were able to identify the suspect as Gary Lee Harding, 54, of Augusta.

Creech said Harding received $2,000 for the sign.

So much for not getting much

So much for not getting much for the metal...$2000 is a lot of money for some people. But for people that the signs actually meant something to, you can't really put a monetary value on that. I wonder what that $2000 was going to be spent on that it was that important for this man to steal them and risk his whole future?

Why did they not arrest the

Why did they not arrest the person who bought the sign? I am glad that he lost $2000 in the deal but he should be in jail. He had to know that it was stolen.

Taylor, the Chronicle

Taylor, the Chronicle reported it as a prank, but all other local media outlets reported it as a scrap metal theft.

I believe the same scum stole the Brynwood subdivision sign at the same time. How can we get it back - or is it too late?
