An Augusta man accused of brutally beating a 79-year-old woman in an attempted rape was denied bond today.

Trevanti R. Givens, 25, must await possible indictment in trial in jail. He faces charges of criminal attempt to commit rape, aggravated assault and burglary.

Richmond  County sheriff deputies responding to a call about a suspicious person on April 16 found the front door of the victim’s home open around midnight, said Assistant District Attorney Hank Syms. Inside they found the victim on the floor. The woman’s face was battered and covered with blood and she was undressed from the waist down. Officers reported they found Givens hiding under a bed in another room, Syms said.

The victim is still hospitalized and recovered from her injuries which included several broken facial bones, a severely broken noise and bleeding on the brain, Syms said.
